How to Install Computer Memory
We want our computers to always function as fast as it was when you first brought it home. Newer applications today are more demanding when it comes to memory resource. If you’re thinking right now that it is very difficult how to install computer memory, then I’m telling you now, it’s pretty easy and simple. You just need to take note of some important things.
Before everything else, be sure that you’re not doing the memory installation on a carpeted area. Simple science. Carpets can create static charges, which can possibly damage the components of your computer. Also, make sure that your computer is turned off and unplugged. You don’t want to burn your hands right? If you have a manual of your computer, I advice that you place it beside you. It might come in handy during the upgrade process.
Main Steps: How to Install Computer Memory
1. Carefully unscrew the casing of your CPU. Be sure to place your screws in a safe location.
2. The computer memory chip or RAM for short, is located on the motherboard, if you’re using a desktop PC. In notebooks, the RAM can be found at the bottom.
3. If you are replacing an old RAM, remove the old RAM by pressing down the clips on the two ends of the slot. If you will simply add another chip, ignore this step.
4. Insert the new RAM into the empty slot. Make sure that the clips on both ends latch. This means, the RAM chip was placed accordingly into the slot.
5. After successfully inserting the RAM, verify if it is working properly. Plug in the computer and turn it on. Go to My Computer, right click and select properties. (Note: this may not be the case with other operating systems, but for this post, we’re dealing with Windows OS) A window will appear indicating the amount of RAM that you have in your computer along with other specifications. Check the RAM amount.
6. Once you have verified that the RAM you inserted is working fine, you may now close the lid of your CPU and off you go to your computer activities.
That’s it. How to install computer memory = Easy as one two three!
